Developing from the Russian Empire after the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the Russian Civil War of 19181921, the USSR was a union of a few Soviet republics, but the synecdoche Russiaafter the Russian SFSR, its biggest and most populous constituent statecontinued to be usually used across the states’s existence. From annexation of the Estonian SSR on Aug six, 1940 up to the reorganization of the Karelo-Finnish SSR into the Karelian ASSR on July sixteen, 1956, the count of union republics numbered sixteen.
As the biggest and oldest constitutional communist-led socialist state, the USSR became the first model for a number of ideologically close Marxist-Leninist states in the Cold War. The governing body and the political organization of the country were outlined by the Bolsheviks and their inheritor, the Red Party of the Soviet Union. The Russian Federation is the so-called continuation state in exercising the rights and satisfying the duties of the previous USSR. Russia is the number 1 member of the Commonwealth of Independent States and a recognised worldwide power, inheriting former Soviet foreign delegates and much of Soviet army. On Feb first, 1924, the USSR was recognized by the Brit Empire. Also in 1924, a Soviet Constitution was given approval, legitimizing the December 1922 union of the Russian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR, the Belarusian SSR, and the Transcaucasian SFSR to form the “Union of Soviet Socialist Republics” ( USSR ). The thorough restructuring of the economy, industry and politics of the country commenced in the beginning of Soviet power in 1917.
A huge part of this was performed according to Bolshevik 1st Decrees, documents of the Soviet central authority, signed by Vladimir Lenin.
One of the most outstanding discoveries was the GOELRO plan, that imagined a major restructuring of the Soviet economy based mostly on total electrification of the country.
The Plan was developed in 1920 and covered a 10- to fifteen year period. It included development of a net of thirty regional power plants, including 10 giant hydroelectric power plants, and countless electric-powered massive economic ventures. The Plan became the prototype for successive Five-Year Plans and was fundamentally satisfied by 1931.
