A Chinese newspaper has discharged Google’s retreat from the country as the irrelevant act of a single company. The web search virtual monopoly, that has been charged with becoming too large and dynamic for its own good on many occassions, has ultimately upped sticks in the Chineses captial and stamped off home to have its tea in HK over a row about self-censorship and state-sponsored hacking.

China thinks Google is using the argument to test the authority of the Commie Party with one central authority paper announcing “Google isn’t God, and even though it puts on a full-on show about politics and values, it still is not God.”. The paper also accuses Google of getting into bed with spooks and spies asserting, “Google isn’t a virgin when talking about values. Even allowing for that the message from the PRC media machine is reasonably clear.

“[Google] fully misunderstood the situation, and doesn’t grasp that Chinese folk are highly averse to external threats and pressure”, it claimed.
